Psychology in Action (April 2026)

The first edition of the annual psychology conference was organised on 18 April 2026.

The theme ​‘intersections in psychology’, aimed to foster dialogue among various subfields of psychology. This year’s conference focused on clinical psychology, counselling psychology, neurosciences, psychiatric social work, and forensic psychology.

The uniqueness of this conference was its design of being student-centric, engaging students with the experts. This facilitated students’ learning about the practical nature of work and current research in these fields, providing a comprehensive understanding of the skills required to pursue them.

The conference featured four exciting sessions, including expert talks, immersion sessions, student poster presentations, and a panel discussion.

DIY Neuroscience Workshop and Hackathon 2025 (September 2025)

We conducted a 2‑day workshop (12 and 15 Sept 2025) where students were introduced to the use of some DIY neuroscience kits (neuroscience lab in a box). These are affordable, hands-on educational toolkits that make learning fun by facilitating experiments with human-computer interfaces, and measurement of biopotential signals such as brain waves (EEG), muscle movements (EMG), heart rate/​activity (ECG), and eye movements/​blinks (EOG). 

On 13 and 14 Sept, a 2‑day hackathon was conducted with the Physics, Information Sciences, Biology undergraduate students. Students used these kits to create small projects. The hackathon involved recording neural or physiological signals, and utilising these for innovative applications.

VIDA anatomy museum visit (March 2026) 

As part of the Brain and Behaviour course, students were taken to the VIDA museum for a field visit in March 2026. Located at the Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (VIMS) in Whitefield, it is one of the most comprehensive medical museums in Bengaluru that hosts a wide range of exhibits of anatomy, pathology and forensics. It’s home to over 10,000 preserved specimens showcasing the marvels of the human body. It offers an immersive learning experience through HD displays, interactive e‑catalogues, and audio-visual exhibits. 

The visit provided a practical, visual learning experience for our students to observe different parts of the real brain and human body and understand the complexities of the brain anatomy. Students could map the brain areas learnt in class and participate in discussions with the medical experts.
