Project title: “Growth of Horticulture in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions of India: Political-Economic Institutions, Social Implications, and Ecological Consequences”.
Brief Intro About the Topic
Horticulture has emerged as a central driver for growth in Indian agriculture in the last two decades. Yet, political-economic and ecological implications of horticulture among small and marginal farmers remain poorly understood. Policy optimism is often accompanied with reports of scale-bias and market failures in horticulture amidst degraded ecological resources in popular and scholarly literature. This research will examine institutional and ecological dynamics of horticultural expansion in semi-arid regions of South India from an interdisciplinary lens. The base location for this work will be Chittoor.
Responsibilities
● Review relevant literatures and summarise them
● Extraction, organising, and analysis of secondary data sets
● Collect qualitative and quantitative data from field locations
● Oversee the Field Investigator
● Ensure data quality
● Documentation
● Periodic reporting to the research team
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences / Rural Development / Rural Management/Public Policy/Environmental Science
- Familiar with social research methods
- Data analysis skills using any statistical software (preferably R)
- Proficient in Telugu and English (reading, writing and speaking)
- Self-motivated and willing to stay in field locations
- Able to drive two-wheeler and must have a license
