Counsellor
We invite applications for the role of Counsellor.
As a counsellor, you will be part of a team of mental health professionals and support the psychological and emotional well-being of the students and members of the University, through counselling and crisis interventions. You will need patience, empathy, and compassion to work with our diverse student body, dealing with a range of issues and challenges, to provide them with a safe and secure space to talk about their challenges and concerns.
Responsibilities:
As a counsellor, you will be required to:
- Provide individual and group counselling sessions
- Build rapport with students on campus to maximise the effectiveness of counselling
- Develop a systemic guidance and support program which addresses personal, social, and academic development
- Nurture and promote an environment for all members to be sensitive and empathetic towards others and co-create a caring and supportive culture on campus
- Develop a ‘conversation plan’ to conduct and organize regular training programs/ workshops on varied topics ranging from gender bias, class politics, stress management, peer support, etc
- Facilitate developing and environment where flexibility is exercised in offering support to student based on their availability and convenience.
- Collaborate and consult with parents, guardians, faculty, and other stakeholders regarding student wellbeing
- Facilitate referrals for specialized assistance (non-clinical contexts) and also connect individuals to clinical professionals, when necessary
- In support and coordination with the communication team, create content based on an understanding of the needs of the students and members to increase awareness and promote a positive mental health framework
- Establish platforms for close coordination and improve feedback mechanisms by working closely with Resident Committee, Student Life, Food and Health committee, Mentors, Sports coordinators, Resident Mentor etc and share concerns of general interest of students, issues which are prominently reflected in their conversations with students that can be resolved by the groups
- Master’s degree in Psychology/ Counselling
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience within the social sector and 2 to 3 years of work experience in higher education institutes will be preferred
