The Psychopathology course offered in the sixth semester traces the history of psychopathology, providing a comprehensive understanding of mental health disorders. It explores the nature, symptoms, and classification, also emphasising the ethical dimensions of mental health practice. The course aims to develop skills in diagnostic reasoning, clinical observation and an overall nuanced understanding of mental health in diverse contexts. Additionally, topics such as the changes in the classificatory procedures, socio-cultural underpinnings of psychological disorders (with an emphasis on India), and debates around emerging topics such as trauma, self-diagnosis AI in mental health and ethics, will be covered. At the end of the course students will be equipped to identify signs and symptoms of various mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Schizophrenia, Substance-use disorders and so on.
