Career Pathways for Biology Undergraduates

From conducting mock interviews to enabling dialogue with alumni who have found their calling across diverse fields, we facilitate your journey to the next steps in your career.

Our alumni have chosen various paths after graduating to pursue their passion – graduate work (MSc or MA), research fellowships, teaching fellowships, employment with NGOs, fieldwork, and more.

As Biology undergraduates, you can pursue roles in research and academia in various fields such as microbiology, ecology, and genetics.

How we facilitate it: Our training encourages you to take up assistantships, internships, as well as building project writing and management skills for applying to postgraduate programmes.

The programme opens up further opportunities in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries as lab technicians and quality control officers.

How we facilitate it: You get a chance to set up and conduct experiments in our well-equipped labs. You can also play an active role in labs to help manage experiments, set-ups, and daily functioning of the labs so that by the time you complete the programme, you are well versed with the lab techniques.

Many students, especially from the BSc BEd Biology (now ITEP) programme have successfully transitioned into fully trained teachers at various schools across India. Several of them have also qualified for competitive programmes such as Teach for India fellows – working in the field of education at the grassroots, working in both rural and urban schools, making a difference, one class at a time.

Students get opportunities to engage with practitioners, institutions, and organisations in the field of conservation and ecology.

How we facilitate it: Our programme trains students in conducting field-based research, conservation action and participating in community-based conservation interventions.

You can work as science communicators by way of articles, films, presentations, and more.

How we facilitate it: Our pedagogy moulds you to build strong communications skills. You are trained to create a multitude of science communication forms such as short articles, essays, films, academic posters, and presentations

Students regularly contribute to the science magazines published in the university, collaborate with faculty on research projects – such as illustrations in iThinkBiology textbook – compiled by the Biology faculty.

Unlock limitless possibilities
