Our engagement in North East India

We work in all 8 states of North East India—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

The focus of our engagement in these states is:

  • Material development (curriculum, syllabus, and textbooks)
  • Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators
  • Reforming state board examinations
  • Reforming state Teachers Eligibility Test (TET)
  • Developing state Position Papers on various themes
  • Work with NGO partners

Material Development: Supported SCERT in the initial process of developing state-level textbooks for classes I – V in English, EVS, and Mathematics.

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Facilitated in-service programmes for teachers of classes 1 – 12 on nature and pedagogy of various subjects and supported the State Resource Group (SRG) develop their own modules for teachers of classes I – XII. Developed an online-teaching engagement plan during the pandemic.

State Position Paper: Supported the SCERT in drafting state-level Position Papers in identified focus areas.

Material Development: Supported Core Team of the State Resource Group (SRG) in designing online continuous professional development courses for elementary teachers teaching English in classes 1 – 8. Supported SCERT in developing a curriculum on value education (dispositions).

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Supported SCERT in capacity development of teacher educators on Language across curriculum’. Supported NGO partners on English language teaching, material development, and learning recovery after the pandemic (classes III – VIII) for government school students.

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Facilitated in-service programme on understanding school curriculum for SCERT and DIET faculty. Facilitated in-service programmes on nature and pedagogy of various subjects. Designed baseline assessment tools (literacy and numeracy) for an NGO partner.

Material Development: Supported SCERT in developing a compendium of material for the DElEd programme. Supported in curriculum and material development on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN).

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Supported in-service professional development programmes for DERT and DIET faculty. Facilitated in-service programmes for teachers teaching classes I – X on learning outcomes and nature and pedagogy of subjects.

Material Development: Supported SCERT in the initial process of developing state-level textbooks for classes I – V in English, EVS, and Mathematics.

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Facilitated in-service programmes for teacher educators on learning outcomes.

Material Development: Supported SCERT in developing an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum and teacher handbook. Oriented and worked with a team of curriculum developers. Supported curriculum developers during orientation workshop with pilot preschool teachers. Supported SCERT in developing sample material for Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN).

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Facilitated in-service programmes for teacher educators on learning outcomes. Facilitated in-service programmes for SCERT and SIEMAT (State Institute of Educational Management and Training) faculty on leadership imperatives. Facilitated in-service programmes for NGO partner on nature and pedagogy of various subjects.

State Position Papers: Supported the SCERT in drafting state-level Position Papers in identified focus areas.

Material Development: Supported SCERT in reviewing material for the DElEd programme. Supported SCERT in the process of developing state-level textbooks for classes I – V in English, EVS, and Math. Oriented and worked with a team of textbook writers for each subject. Supported textbook writers in orientation of pilot teachers to the new textbooks, and later, all teachers of the state. Supported SCERT in question paper development for school-based assessment in alignment with new textbooks.

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Facilitated in-service programmes for SCERT and DIET faculty on education leadership, and for science teachers teaching classes 11 and 12 on nature and pedagogy of science. Conducted the induction programme for new SCERT faculty.

Sikkim Teachers Eligibility Test (STET): Supported SCERT in restructuring the state Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) by developing subject-wise assessment frameworks, blueprints, and item banks. Oriented and worked with Working Group members for the same.

State Position Papers: Supported the SCERT in drafting state-level Position Papers in identified focus areas.

Capacity development of teachers and teacher educators: Facilitated in-service programmes for Inspectors of Schools (IS) on perspectives on education and education leadership.

Reforming state board examinations: Supported question paper setters/​authors in developing item banks for class 10 state board examinations.
