Research Associate for CSIE (Welfare) Centre for the Study of Indian Economy

We invite applications for the role of Research Associate for the Centre for the Study of the Indian Economy.

The Centre for the Study of the Indian Economy (CSIE) brings together existing and new initiatives that support research, knowledge dissemination and advocacy on Indian economic well-being. We envision bridging economic performance with human development through innovative, evidence-based approaches. This will be done through a multilevel focus across national, subnational and local levels, and the academic rigour by way of advanced research methods to critical national questions.

The objective of the role is to assist with carrying out research at the Centre for the Study of the Indian Economy. The role involves working with post-doctoral research fellows and faculty on ongoing research projects on various aspects of the welfare in India including human development and growth, public finance, health financing, household debt etc. A large part of the work will involve working with large scale databases. There might also be some primary data collection work.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in data cleaning and analysis using large datasets such as HCES (NSS), NFHS and other NSS survey data.
  • Assisting in data cleaning and analysis of data from primary surveys on access to welfare schemes.
  • Participating in literature review and writing of reports/​papers.
  • Masters’ in Economics/​Development Studies/​Public Policy.
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as STATA or R is essential. Familiarity with a programming language such as Python is desirable.
  • Experience in working with economic datasets such as the PLFS/NSS, IHDS, NFHS etc is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the principal problems and the structure of the Indian economy, particularly with respect to the social sector is desirable.
