Physics Lab Faculty

We invite applications for faculty position in our undergraduate Physics Lab.

The Physics programme emphasises a hands-on approach built into the curriculum and pedagogy through a lab component. The core courses and projects are centred around building equipment and developing inhouse instrumentation for teaching and research. 

At the university, there are six lab spaces that need to be maintained and upgraded. This includes two teaching labs, an electronics and instrumentation lab, a projects lab, a machining workshop, and a sophisticated instruments lab.

Responsibilities: 

As a Physics Lab faculty, you will:

  1. Participate in teaching, research, outreach, and documentation. 
  • To develop and design experiments for courses in coordination with other faculty. Also, supervision of trouble shooting for lab sessions, improvisation of existing labs and documentation of the lab modules developed in house. 
  • Pursue independent research activities around the areas of interest.
  • Conduct and facilitate workshops in the sciences, create curated exhibits, maintain, and supervise lab related facilities and resources for users.
  1. Be involved with identification and purchase of new equipment, repair of faulty equipment, liaise with procurement team and external vendors, maintain inventory of capital equipment and material. Replenish and stock consumables electronics components, visit market to get supplies.
  2. Oversee the work, responsibilities and lab access of interns, student assistants, and academic associates to coordinate research projects and teaching labs. 
  3. Coordinate with teams to resolve infrastructural issues and come up find solutions to meet new requirements.
  4. Conduct workshops of advanced equipment training for faculty and students in the Physics projects lab.
  • An advanced degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics, Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics), Material Science or related fields with strong experimental background OR an MSc in Physics, Electronics, Instrumentation, Photonics or related areas, BTech or Diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering and a strong interest in science education may also apply.
  • Work experience of at least two years in private firms dealing with instrumentation and fabrication, or project or technical assistantships in a CSIR lab, university, technical institutions or colleges is preferred.
  • Candidates with 2 – 3 years experience (industry, post-doctoral work, teaching etc.) may be preferred.
