Music has been part of our work since the days of Radio Azim Premji University.
Our podcasts often brought us to poets, musicians and musical traditions. Sometimes, the music created around these programmes began to take on a life of its own.
The Path to Pandharpur grew from our engagement with the poetry and music of the Bhakti tradition.
Kayakave Kailasa brought Kannada Vachanas into conversation with contemporary music through M D Pallavi and Bruce Lee Mani. That collaboration grew into Kayaka, an original musical project that reimagines the Vachanas through contemporary arrangements.
These projects are the starting point for Janato Music.
As we build further, we hope to create and commission more original albums and music inspired by India’s poetry, literature, folk traditions and contemporary life.
