The Shiksha Conclave 2027
Let’s reimagine the future of education

Details
A first-of-its-kind platform for young voices, ideas and perspectives on Indian education
About the Conclave
What does education mean in India today? How do our schools shape the way we understand the world? What determines who gets to learn, what they learn and the opportunities that become available to them? And how can we make education more meaningful for everyone?
A first-of-its-kind initiative, the Shiksha Conclave 2027, organised by the School of Education at Azim Premji University, will bring together final-year undergraduate students from diverse disciplines and colleges across India to explore these questions and share their perspectives on education.
Over two days, the University will become a space for students to exchange ideas, engage with different viewpoints and examine questions that matter to education. Through presentations, workshops, discussions and informal conversations, participants will explore themes of their interest and encounter new ways of thinking about education and its possibilities.
What’s in store?
The Conclave invites students to take their ideas off the page and into conversation with others. Selected participants will present their ideas through creative and engaging formats, including street plays, photo essays, posters, zines and short talks. These presentations will be part of a competition that encourages students to communicate their ideas and engage with different perspectives.
Participants will be able to:
- Engage with themes of interest through workshops that encourage reflection, discussion and collaborative learning.
- Participate in discussions that offer a deeper understanding of the questions, contexts and areas of work that inform the School of Education’s programmes.
- Contribute to the Youth Wall, a space for capturing and sharing young people’s perspectives on education.
- Spend time with current students, alumni and faculty members, and take part in a cultural evening and informal interactions.
Core themes of the event
Learning from school, and living in the real world
What stayed with you from your school years, and how has it shaped the way you live today? Think of a person, an incident or a lesson that you still carry with you. It could be a teacher who made a lasting impact on you or a memorable class.
Inclusion in education: A myth or a reality for India?
Why does it matter for children of different abilities, family backgrounds, languages and lifestyles to learn together? Share what inclusion could look like according to you, what made you feel that you belonged and were valued in the classroom. For example: A memory of a time when you learnt well in your classroom or a time when you felt left out in the classroom.
Science, Maths and Social Sciences: Learning for our communities
How can lessons in Science, Maths and Social Sciences help understand and improve the places we live in, be it a village, town or city? Are these subjects complementary or separate? Think of instances such as a local problem that Maths or Science could help solve, or a Social Sciences lesson that changed the way you see your neighbourhood.
Growing up with play, stories, local toys and screens: How do young children learn?
The early years of a child’s life shape how they learn, feel and relate to the world. What do young children gain from outdoor play, local games, toys and folktales, and what changes when screens become part of their day? Share what early childhood experience should look like, and how families, anganwadis and preschools can create it. For example: A game, toy or folktale from your childhood that taught you something, or a play-based space for young children that you would design, using local toys and stories.
Schooling in a multicultural and multilingual society
India is a multicultural and multilingual country. How does this diversity bring richness or challenges to learning, teaching, and classrooms? Think of instances such as a story of learning in a language that was not your home language or a classroom that celebrated every child’s culture.
Learning constitutional values and being citizens of a democratic society
The Constitution speaks of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. How do our schools help children understand and live these values? Think of instances such as a moment at school that taught you fairness or equality, or a policy for school education that you dream of.
Technology, AI and teaching-learning: Boon, bane or both?
How are technology and AI changing the way we learn and teach? What might classrooms, teachers and students look like in the future? Think of scenarios such as a day in a classroom of 2040. How might you use technology to learn, and where might it fall short?
Who can participate?
The Shiksha Conclave 2027 is open to final-year undergraduate students from all disciplines and programmes across India.
Students interested in participating must submit an abstract presenting an idea under one of the specified themes. Applications will be reviewed, and participation confirmations will be sent to selected applicants.
