Programmes and Placements
Our programme is designed to provide a strong understanding of the Indian economy, and help you make connections between the minute details and larger ideas.
Our BA and MA programmes are designed to equip students with a rigorous understanding of economic theory as well as quantitative and qualitative tools of empirical analysis. In addition, our courses emphasise the importance of historical and institutional analysis, particularly with reference to the Indian economy in a global context.
Several of our courses make use of innovative pedagogical approaches such as flipped classrooms, games, community-based learning. multimedia resources and so on. Learning does not stop at the classroom, however. Students are encouraged to discuss economic ideas with each other and with the faculty in various other formal and informal fora.
At Azim Premji University, we believe in integrating disciplinary outlooks rather than operating in silos. In our university, particularly in the undergraduate programmes, we believe in integrating disciplines rather than segregating them. In fact, throughout the first year of undergraduate programme, students go through a sequence of common curriculum courses which strengthen their understanding of India’s many pasts, present and possible futures. It is through such courses that our students build perspectives of the realities around us, and blend those into the subsequent courses in Economics.
The skills of an economist are hugely valued by the public, private, and non-profit sectors. We train professionals who can combine their technical and quantitative abilities with a deep commitment for social change in the development sector.
