Communications Associate — Academic Resource Centre (ARC)
We invite applications for the position of Communications Associate for the Academic Resource Centre (ARC).
We are seeking applications from candidates to support undergraduate and postgraduate students in developing effective English communication practices for academic participation, professional contexts, and public‑facing engagements.
In this role, you will be working closely with students on strengthening spoken and written communication in higher‑education and early‑career transition contexts, with particular attention to students for whom English is a second language and who come from multilingual, educationally diverse backgrounds. You will also be required to teach an academic reading-writing course.
This position and its responsibilities are situated within the ARC’s student‑support framework.
Responsibilities:
As a Communications Associate, you will:
- Design and deliver workshops on academic discussion and seminar participation, presentation and public speaking skills, interview and group discussion performance, and professional communication practices.
- Teach academic reading-writing courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Support students in articulating academic learning, fieldwork, project, and internship experiences into coherent oral and written narratives for academic and professional contexts.
- Provide individual and small-group coaching for presentations, interviews, and academic participation.
- Develop practice-based learning materials and simulation exercises (e.g., mock interviews, group discussions, presentation rehearsals).
- Contribute to bridge and transition programmes supporting students’ academic and professional preparedness.
- Create context-sensitive instructional resources for multilingual and diverse learners, and collaborate with ARC and programme faculty to embed communication support where needed.
- A master’s degree in English Language Teaching, Communications, TESOL, or a closely related field.
- Prior experience in teaching or training spoken and written English, communication skills in higher secondary, higher education, or early-career training contexts.
- Prior experience in coaching or mentoring students for interviews, group discussions, or public presentations.
- A strong understanding of academic and professional communication genres.
- The ability to work effectively with multilingual learners and students from diverse educational backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of ethical and appropriate use of AI tools in communication preparation and learning contexts.
- The ability to design interactive, practice-oriented instructional sessions.
