Academic Associate — English

We invite applications for the position of Academic Associate (AA) in English for the Undergraduate programme.

As an Academic Associate in English, you will support student academic work, systems and events within the BA English programme at the University. 

This is a 1‑year full-time position with possibility of extension for another year.

Responsibilities:

  • Tutor students in the English major and shadow-attend English and common curriculum courses in order to prepare for tutoring.
  • Offer both walk-in and slotted office hours for students, and also offer support, in-person and remote, during the semester breaks for students. 
  • Help coordinate and facilitate English-related segments in support programmes.
  • Work with the Student Academic Advisors (SAAs) to manage the peer tutoring system within the English major.
  • Create learning material in relation to the courses in the English major.
  • Offer coordination support for events, the Honours track and field visits within the English major. 
  • Support and guide students who are a part of the Literature Club.
  • A Master’s degree in English, Literature, Cultural Studies, or any other domain allied to English.
  • A basic understanding of the challenges that emerge in an English Literature classroom, and with regard to learning English as a language.
  • An interest in working closely with students in the role of a tutor.
  • An ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, and an engaged and sensitive approach in terms of pedagogy.
