The expansion of India’s higher education system brings some pertinent questions with it: Are students learning skills that matter for the job market? Who gets access to college, and who gets left out? And are the courses offered match the needs of the job market? Through this vertical, we explore these questions from different angles. 

One effort aims to assess whether graduating students have practical skills — like reading comprehension, working with data, basic digital literacy, and knowledge in their chosen field. Another project mines placement data reported by colleges themselves to see how many graduates actually find jobs. 

Using All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) data and reports, we are mapping the physical and financial accessibility to higher education, while also estimating the number of graduating students across academic disciplines.

Together, this work aims to provide policymakers and institutions a clearer, evidence-based picture of higher education’s landscape and its outcomes.
