Thriving at University: Support Structures that Make a Difference
Introducing three areas of student support to ease transition into university life
Details
Starting university is a new experience. Students learn in a different academic environment, meet new people, take on greater responsibility, and find their own ways of managing study and life on campus. Students at Azim Premji University can access different forms of support as they navigate this transition and make the most of their university experience. These include spaces to talk about wellbeing, support to make learning and campus life more accessible, and resources to help students develop approaches to academic work.
This session introduces three areas of student support and gives you a clearer understanding of what’s on offer and how students can access them:
Conversations: Student wellbeing
Conversations: Centre for Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing provides students with a space to speak to counsellors about personal, emotional, and academic concerns. The session will look at how students can seek support, what these conversations involve, and how wellbeing is understood as part of the student experience.
Office of Disability Inclusion (ODI)
ODI works towards making learning and campus life more accessible to students with disabilities. Learn about our accommodation and assistive technologies, peer support, and collaboration with faculty to address barriers to participation and support inclusive teaching-learning practices.
Academic Resource Centre (ARC)
ARC supports students in developing approaches to learning that can help them manage university-level academic work. This includes support related to study skills, time management, organisation, along with resources that help students approach their academic work with greater confidence.
Together, these forms of support recognise that students come to university with different experiences, strengths, needs, and ways of learning.
Support for student wellbeing
Understand when and how students can seek support for personal, emotional, and academic concerns, and the role of conversations in helping students navigate university life.
Accessible learning
Learn about the ways in which the University works to reduce barriers that students with disabilities may encounter in academic and campus settings.
Approaches to learning
Understand how students can receive support with study practices, time management, organisation, and other aspects of managing university-level academic work.
Support in practice
Understand fom the teams working with students how these services function, when students can access them, and how they work with faculty and the wider University community.
A university where students can participate fully
Consider why wellbeing, accessibility, and academic support are part of the educational environment rather than services that sit separately from it.
- Students considering undergraduate or postgraduate study at Azim Premji University.
- Parents and families who want to understand the support available to students.
- Educators, counsellors, and others interested in student wellbeing, accessibility, and inclusive education.
- Anyone interested in how universities can create learning environments where students with different needs can participate fully.
