The Schoolbooks Archive is an open-access digital archive that offers a wide- ranging collection of printed teaching and learning materials developed and used in India and the subcontinent, along with a large number of related documents, such as reports on curriculum and teaching learning materials, modules and monographs for teachers, school dictionaries and atlases, curriculum and syllabus documents prepared for school and teacher education, manuals for school laboratory-work, glossaries, conversion tables and anthologies of literary pieces. The collection covers a period of 200 years, has materials in 17 languages (some of the books are bilingual) and contains materials on most subjects that have been part of school education in modern India.

This exhibition presents a small selection of materials mentioned above. Many of these are original editions; some are copies. The exhibition will provide visitors with a glimpse of the nation’s history of school education.
