Assessing learning at scale in India: Quality, Interpretation and Use

Details

About the Session

Large-scale assessments (LSAs) like PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan and ASER are now a regular feature of India’s education system, providing information about student learning across schools, districts, states and the country. At the same time, conducting and interpreting LSAs in a large and diverse education system presents significant challenges, and the quality of the evidence depends on many factors-from assessment design and implementation to data analysis, reporting and use. There is also a need to understand what LSA data can tell us- and what it cannot tell us- so that the results are used appropriately by various stakeholders at different levels. This panel discussion will explore these issues and discuss how we can strengthen the quality and use of LSAs, including the capabilities assessment professionals need and how LSA findings can be made more meaningful for teachers and schools.
