Helping Children Learn Mathematics

Mathematics can be both challenging and deeply rewarding to teach. This session explores how teachers can design classroom experiences that help children understand mathematical ideas meaningfully, moving beyond memorisation towards curiosity and comprehension.

About the session

Mathematics teaching and learning continues to pose challenges for both teachers and learners. This webinar will focus on how we can support children in learning mathematics with understanding, confidence, and joy.

Drawing on examples from the new NCERT textbooks, the session will explore how classroom experiences can be designed to help students connect mathematical ideas with their own ways of thinking. The speakers will discuss common difficulties learners face while making sense of mathematical concepts and share practical strategies to make mathematics learning more accessible, engaging, and meaningful.

The discussion will invite participants to reimagine what it means to learn mathematics, moving beyond memorisation towards curiosity, exploration, and understanding.

Who should attend?

This webinar is ideal for teachers, teacher educators, and professionals engaged with mathematics education. It will also be valuable for students and prospective applicants to our programmes who are interested in understanding how theory and practice intersect in making mathematics teaching more inclusive and meaningful.
