Theory & Practice in Education — Mapping Contours & Bridging Gaps
Conference on global insights on advancing educational paradigms
Submit abstract by 5 August 2024
Theory and practice: these are two elements intrinsic to a sound and balanced education system. One is incomplete without the other.
The multifaceted field of education is also a constantly evolving field, and the perfect synergy and equilibrium between theoretical and conceptual understanding of issues and actual practice is key to deliberations and reflections on policies and frameworks. Practice in education is often regarded as a post-facto to theory. This, however, may not always be the case, because practice, too, informs theorisation and reflection by practitioners.
In the crucial effort to integrate theory and practice and encourage a more mindful approach to the way we address educational matters, we need to answer questions such as ‘who does the theory apply to’, what are the limitations of the theory’ and ‘what bias might the theorist have that might reflect in the theory’.
Theory & Practice in Education, a three-day conference at the Azim Premji University, Bhopal, seeks to foster a comprehensive dialogue on how theory and practice can inform and enhance each other.
We invite applications from practitioners from all domains – Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, subject disciplines and pedagogic sciences – where theoretical research is underway.
Through this conference, we intend to:
- Deliberate and discuss key issues related to theory-practice in education
- Discuss varied theoretical approaches in education from the domains of Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology and pedagogy/andragogy
- Draw linkages between theoretical and practical approaches in education and why both play a pivotal role in building an equitable and sustainable society
- Learn about the field implementation of various theoretical ideas and analyse their application in different contexts
- Develop a global perspective on building theory-practice linkages Integrate practice components in individual research projects
