This course introduces you to the study of literature as related to a historical culture and time period, using nineteenth century England as an example. Here, you will learn how to interpret texts through contexts which include but are not limited to, author biographies, aesthetic movements, historical and socio-political events, maps and the travelogue. The course will also engage with the well-known ideas associated with this period produced both during and after the period ending in the 1900s.
