Sports and Fitness Committee

Fostering a culture of inclusivity, equality and cooperation with a strong emphasis on conducting our sporting activities in good spirit

Sports has been integral to building the culture of Azim Premji University from the time of its inception. Anyone who has associated with the institution would recognise the pride we take in our vibrant and inclusive sporting culture which has been built thoughtfully and consultatively over all these years.

The conception of the Sports and Fitness Committee was a natural step towards further refining and democratising our sporting environment .

The Sports and Fitness Committee, popularly known as SFC, was created with a vision to ensure that such a culture sustains, evolves, and focuses on sports and fitness becoming a critical part of the daily lives of the students, staff, members, and the community as a whole.

SFC today actively engages over 650 students, working members and will soon be reaching out to the local community in the near future with a host of unique initiatives. SFC is currently managing over 15 sports and other engagements in the field of sports, games, fitness and wellness through clubs organised, managed and driven by student coordinators from within the University.

To ensure every student engages in sports, SFC is ceaselessly working towards building and upgrading sporting facilities and infrastructure, equipping the campus with the required equipment, and providing opportunities to interact with each other in novel ways. In this regard, we are experimenting with workshops that cater not only to different skills but also to a diverse group of students.

SFC also seeks to create space for new and lesser-known but equally beneficial sports and wellness initiatives. One of the crucial and oft-praised roles of SFC is to hold dialogues and conversations with students, staff and members on how to improve the experience and quality of sports and fitness on campus for everyone.

SFC is deeply committed to the idea that the playing community sees engagement through us as an avenue to play with good spirit and sportsmanship, build companionships, and learn skills that benefit them through the course of their lives. Consequently, we hope they build meaningful relationships and create memories they cherish for a lifetime.

I’d rather regret the risks that didn’t work out than the chances I didn’t take at all.

Vision

The vision of SFC is inspired by the philosophy of Azim Premji Foundation, which is to build a just, equitable, humane, and sustainable society. Likewise, SFC’s guiding principle is to build a student-driven culture on the campus which adheres to the values of inclusion, equality, and cooperation with a focus on playing in good spirits.
