Areas of Interest & Expertise
- Elementary, Middle School to University Level Mathematics
- Mathematics Teacher Education
- Mathematics Classroom Practices
Biography
Vignesh has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He has another Master’s degree in Mathematics from Freie Universitat Berlin and a doctoral degree in Mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland. His doctoral work was in number theory, more specifically in the analytic aspects of the theory of automorphic forms.
Before joining the university, he worked as an IoE teaching fellow in Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Science, Challakere campus. Here, he helped design and facilitate 10 – 12 day residential teacher training programs for government middle and high school teachers. Moreover, he contributed to designing materials including manuals and activities to support the trainings.
He is currently interested in all aspects of mathematics teaching and learning including the development of mathematical thinking and discourse practices in classroom contexts, supporting teachers in creating more collaborative learning spaces which allow the learners to cocreate knowledge with their peers and teachers. He is also interested in contributing to the growth of appreciation of mathematics in students and education practitioners of all levels.
