Biography

Sourindra Mohan Ghosh is a development economist interested in the relationship between public policy, wellbeing, and inequality. His research examines how people access healthcare, food, and social protection, and how public interventions shape these outcomes. Drawing on large-scale surveys as well as field-based research, he has worked on questions relating to health financing, nutrition, social protection, agricultural transformation, and food systems in India.

Before joining Azim Premji University, Sourindra worked at the Council for Social Development, New Delhi, where he led and contributed to research projects funded by organisations including NABARD, Tata Trusts, Nutrition International, KfW Bankengruppe, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Most recently, he served as Principal Investigator of a NABARD-funded study examining the practice of contract farming in India and its implications for farmers, firms, and public policy.

His publications have appeared in journals including Economic & Political Weekly, Social Change, Discover Food, and the International Journal of Health Policy and Management. Beyond academic publishing, he regularly contributes to public debates on health policy, nutrition, food security, agriculture, and social welfare through opinion pieces and policy commentary in leading national media outlets.

His current work explores the intersections of health, food systems, agriculture, and social policy, with a particular interest in understanding how public action can contribute to more equitable development.
