Biography
Shivam Thapa is an educator, sports professional, researcher, and martial arts practitioner with significant contributions to physical education, sports coaching, curriculum development, and teacher education. He earned his PhD in Physical Education and Sports Sciences, a Master of Physical Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Sports Sciences from the University of Delhi. He qualified the UGC-NET JRF in Physical Education in 2020.
His academic journey reflects a strong commitment to research. During his undergraduate studies, he investigated the relationship between students’ attitudes, wellbeing, friendships, and their academic and sports achievements at the University of Delhi. His master’s research focused on the psychological profile of Taekwondo players, while his doctoral research examined the prevalence of bullying in sports. He has also contributed to research in sport and exercise psychology, including psychological skills training, goal setting, sensory processing in sports, and other factors influencing sports performance and athlete development.
Shivam has made notable contributions to educational development through NCERT, serving as a member of the textbook development teams for the Classes 7, 8, and 9 Physical Education and Well-being textbooks. He has also served as a resource person in several NCERT, CIET, and SCERT programmes, focusing on curriculum development, educational media production, and teacher capacity-building initiatives.
He holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo from Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters). Professionally, he has served as a postgraduate teacher (Physical Education) in schools across the Delhi NCR region. He has also held coaching positions as head coach at The Taekwondo Dojang and as coach and assistant coach at Kickfitness Taekwondo Academy.
An accomplished athlete and technical official, Shivam has won numerous medals in Taekwondo and Karate and has contributed to major sporting events as both a technical official and an administrator.
