Biography

Preeti teaches a hands-on Sustainable Farming course, where students engage in farming practices to learn sustainability. Her work focuses on sustainable agriculture within the broader domain of rural livelihoods, gender, and youth. She teaches a hands-on Sustainable Farming course, where students learn sustainable practices by directly engaging in farming activities.

She is also working on bringing sustainability components into schools and teacher engagement at both the capacity-building and curriculum-strengthening levels.

Preeti guides the projects of the Sustainable Farming Club, the Thrift Store, and the Medicinal Plant Garden at the university, and works to embed sustainable practices across the university.

With several years of experience in research organisations and NGOs, Preeti brings expertise in research, advocacy, and youth engagement to her role. Previously, she served as Assistant Programme Coordinator at Restless Development in Ranchi, Jharkhand, focusing on youth leadership for advocacy on sexual and reproductive health rights and gender equity.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Preeti volunteered with the Stranded Workers’ Action Network (SWAN), providing support to migrant workers through cash transfers and welfare linkages. Later, she coordinated SWAN’s fellowship programme, training workers in skills for employability and leadership.   Her paper, To link or not link: How Aadhaar Impacts the Delivery of Welfare, has been awarded the D N Ghosh prize for the best paper in EPW 2024, under the young scholar category.

Preeti has facilitated and spoken at several webinars focused on migrant workers and issues related to migration. These sessions provided deep insights into the realities faced by migrant workers during the COVID-19 lockdown, highlighting their challenges and concerns on the ground.

Preeti initiated a hands-on Sustainable Farming activity on the university campus and later formed and continues to guide the Sustainable Farming Club. Through these efforts, she promotes practical learning and student engagement in sustainable agricultural practices.

Preeti holds an M.Phil. in Sociology and a Master’s in Anthropology from the University of Delhi. Her research explores the relationship between humans and the environment, with a focus on sustainable development and indigenous knowledge systems. Through her work, including tree plantation drives and studies on welfare schemes in Jharkhand, she aims to build a harmonious relationship between human progress and nature.
