Biography

Kamal is an established writer, director, and educationist from Kerala, India. A graduate of FTII Pune, he has made shorts, documentaries and feature films. His debut feature I.D. (2012) premiered at leading international festivals including Busan, Rotterdam, and Marrakech, winning nine international awards and earning acclaim from Les Cahiers du Cinéma and The Wall Street Journal. His second feature Pada (2022) released worldwide and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. It won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Writer in 2023. 

He served as Associate Professor and Head of the Department at KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (2014 – 2017). He has led workshops at FTII Pune, NID Ahmedabad, and Rohtak Film School. Kamal has served on juries at IDSFFK, VIBGYOR, and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.
