Joyeeta Sen
Biography
For the past 16 years, she has been associated with Ummeed Child Development Center, where she currently serves as Associate Director and Senior Special Educator. Her work is rooted in a strong passion for supporting children with disabilities and their families, and she is deeply committed to advocating for their rights, inclusion, and holistic development. Over the years, she has worked extensively with children across a wide range of disabilities and age groups, developing a nuanced understanding of diverse learning and developmental needs. Her expertise also lies in leading, designing and delivering impactful training programmes for a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including educators, parents, and school systems.
With over 15 years of experience in capacity building, she has contributed to strengthening inclusive practices within educational settings. In addition to her work at Ummeed, she is also a visiting faculty member at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, where she teaches courses in inclusive education, mentoring future educators to build more inclusive and responsive classrooms. She holds a master’s degree in special education with a specialisation in reading and writing from Columbia University, along with an additional master’s degree in child psychology from the University of Kolkata.
