Biography
Gautham completed his doctoral degree at the Chennai Mathematical Institute, studying the cohomology of algebraic varieties.
He taught school children from various backgrounds (ranging from underprivileged children to students at an international school) and this kindled his interest in how children learn, and especially the role of ‘making’ and ‘play’ in learning – this is something that still interests Gautham deeply, especially with older learners.
Prior to moving to Azim Premji University, he was on the faculty of Srishti Institute for Art, Design and Technology for a number of years. Here he taught courses in Mathematics and Computation in Design, Design in Education and Experimental Media.
At the University, Gautham is teaching Design for Communities, an occupational track, the Creative Expressions courses and has been involved with the math studio (which has been envisioned as a maker space for students interested in mathematics).
He is also an active studio woodworker.
