Aswin Govindan Sheri
Areas of Interest & Expertise
- Euclidean harmonic analysis: Maximal functions, continuum incidence problems.
- Geometric measure theory: Distance set problems, patterns within fractal sets.
Biography
Aswin holds a PhD in Mathematics, jointly awarded by the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University. He completed the Integrated BS-MS program in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali. Prior to joining the university, he was an ANRF National Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Berhampur.
His research interests lie at the intersection of Harmonic Analysis and Geometric Measure Theory. Using tools from incidence geometry and Fourier analysis, he investigates maximal functions, objects that are used to understand the local and global behaviour of functions. He is also interested in identifying patterns that occur within sets commonly known as fractals.
He is a passionate mathematics teacher and has taught several courses at both IISER Berhampur and the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut.
Apart from his academic pursuits, Aswin has a keen interest in the history of science, economics, and popular culture, especially cinema and music. He greatly enjoys travelling and undertaking long hikes in the mountains.
