0K Physics Fest 2025
Zero Kelvin— the lowest achievable temperature and the coolest a fest can get!
Campus
Bengaluru

Physics – boring and bland? Think again! Accessible to all, from brain teasers to easy fun, the 0K fest, by the Physics Club at the University, had it all. Wondering what 0K means? 0K or Zero Kelvin –absolute zero temperature – is the lowest achievable temperature and the coolest a fest can get! With nine events spread over two days, the fest saw participation by over a hundred enthusiasts.
The university encourages the spirit of inquiry and experimentation among all disciplines, evident through events like these that are tailored to evoke curiosity in students from science and non-science backgrounds alike. The philosophy of learning by doing is also central to the pedagogy and curriculum of the BSc in Physics programme, where many of the core courses have a corresponding laboratory component. This enables students to implement the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to hands-on experiments in the laboratory.

“Over a period of four years, a student not only develops a concrete understanding of Physics concepts but also their applications in the real world. This is also demonstrated through the various Honours projects they take up later in the programme under the guidance of the Physics faculty.”
1. Escape room: Two escape rooms were built in one of the physics labs. This event consisted of two levels of required physics knowledge. The first one had basic set ups which were based on easy concepts like balancing a beam with weights. The second one required a higher level of physics knowledge and also had set ups with equipment like the spectroscope.
2. Treasure hunt: Using basic chemistry and physics concepts, a map of the college was made into a circuit. Using this, teams of 4 – 5 people toured the campus in search of clues that led them to the final treasure.
3. Quiz: A physics quiz with trivia and sci-fi was conducted. Teams of 2 – 3 participated and won exciting prizes.
4. Rocket making workshop: Using plastic bottles, a cycle pump and corks, an easy Do-It-Yourself (DIY) rocket was made by teams of 2 – 3 people and launched in the sports ground.
5. Interactive art: This piece was titled ‘the shapes of sound’ and patterns emerged on the screen as it picked up the surrounding frequencies on a microphone.
6. Repair cafe: A radio-making workshop was held with simple components in the electronics lab, where soldering and other such techniques were used through this process.
7. Faculty feud: Members of the Physics faculty took the stage for a humorous debate on bizarre Physics questions curated by the students.
8. Movie screening: The movie Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was screened. It transported the audience back to the era of good-old classic science fiction.
9. Obstacle course: An obstacle course was designed which served as a game to test basic Physics knowledge of the participants.
