Karnataka Regional Mathematical Olympiad
The Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India, which culminates in the participation of Indian students in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), is organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) under the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), a part of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.
The primary aim of the programme is to identify and nurture mathematical talent among pre-university students across the country. The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is conducted in multiple stages, with contests held across different regions nationwide.
Since 2023, the Mathematical Olympiad activities for the Karnataka region have been hosted at the Bengaluru campus of Azim Premji University. The Regional Coordinators are responsible for ensuring the smooth organization of exams and training sessions, starting from the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) and leading up to the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO).
Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)
The Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) is a three-hour exam consisting of six challenging problems. RMO 2024 is scheduled for November 3, 2024, from 1 PM to 4 PM. In the Karnataka region, the exam will be conducted at two centers: Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, and University College, Mangalore. Indian National Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (INMOTC)
The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad Training Camps (INMOTC) are conducted at the regional level to prepare students for the INMO. INMOTC 2024 for the Karnataka region will take place at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, in December. Details will be updated soon.
Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO)
Top-performing students from the RMO advance to the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO). The INMO 2025 for the Karnataka region will be held on January 19, 2025, at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru.

Important instructions for candidates taking the test at Azim Premji University campus:
- Students will be permitted inside the campus only from 11 AM to 5 PM.
- Only students with a valid admit card (hall ticket) and a photo ID will be allowed entry into the campus.
- Guardians accompanying the students will NOT be permitted on campus and are expected to make their own arrangements.
- Students should bring their own lunch, as no special provisions will be made at the campus canteen. However, they may use the canteen space to eat their meals.
- Limited parking is available outside the campus, so students should plan their travel accordingly.
- No student will be allowed to enter the exam halls after 1:30 PM.
- Students are advised to avoid interacting with or feeding the animals on campus.

Frequently Asked Questions
The camp is in person, and there is no option for attending it online.
As per guidelines provided by the National Olympiad Cell, accommodation can be arranged only for outstation participants. Participants from Bengaluru (both urban and rural districts) will not have the option of staying on campus.
Yes, participants are responsible for the arrangement and expenses for their travel.
Lunch and snacks are arranged for all participants. Breakfast and dinner will be available only for students staying on campus. For those staying on campus, accommodation is arranged free of cost.
Considering that some students might want to take a break on Christmas day, we have made attending the camp optional for the participants. There will be no lectures arranged for the day. However, the instructors will be available on campus and participants may use the classroom facilities to discuss and solve problems.
Yes, Feel free to use the facilities at the cafeteria for breakfast/ lunch.
Accommodation will be arranged in the student hostel. Accommodation will be twin-sharing with common bathroom facilities. Separate floors for different genders.
Immediately inform the Regional Coordinators. We have a medical room for basic care and an ambulance ready 24⁄7. We’ll contact your family and take you to a hospital if needed. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions please write to the regional coordinators.
Sorry, the campus internet is only for university members.
We will provide each participant with a 100-page notebook and a pen. You could bring any additional stationeries that you may require for the camp.
Mattress, mattress cover, pillow and pillow covers, and blankets will be provided. However, considering that the temperature in Bengaluru in December will be very cold, we leave it to the judgment of the parents to decide if they need to carry additional blankets for their comfort. Buckets are available in each bathroom.
Yes, but please keep it secure. We advise against bringing valuables, but if you do, make sure they are safely locked up.
Yes, you’ll receive these during check-in/registration.
Yes, there’s a shuttle from Sarjapura Police Station junction to campus. Note: the service frequency is reduced as it is a semester break.
Only registered participants are allowed on campus. If you have opted for accommodation, your family members can accompany you to the check-in desk during check-in and check-out. Under no circumstances anyone other than the registered participants can enter the residential buildings.
Sarjapura village is about 2 km away, with various facilities. For safety, don’t venture alone, especially do not walk to go to Sarjapura. Inform the Regional Coordinators, get permission, and use the university shuttle for any trips.
Without parents/guardian’s written request, participants staying on campus are not allowed to go out of campus during the camp. For emergency purposes, participants should take prior permission from the regional coordinators.
Yes, rooms are gender-segregated.
The camp schedule includes various activities and sessions. Participants are free to use their leisure time as they see fit, which may include preparing for the JEE Mains or other personal activities.
Attendance for all sessions and activities is required. If you need to miss any part of the camp, please seek permission from the Regional Coordinators in advance. Unapproved absences may result in being asked to leave the camp.

If you are using public transport, head to the Sarjapur Police Station bus stop near the Sarjapura bus stand. The university is about 2 km from the bus stop. You can catch the university shuttle opposite the police station on the Attibele-Sarjapur road or take an auto-rickshaw. Follow this route for last-minute connectivity.
