The Conference for Undergraduate Research in Economics (CURE) aims to be a platform to support undergraduate and early-postgraduate researchers in economics. It shall provide a forum for young researchers to bring their work to the forefront, receive constructive feedback, meet like-minded people, and learn from experienced researchers in the field. 

The two-day conference will be held on the 24th and 25th of January, 2027. It will include keynote lectures, talks, poster presentations and workshops.

Eligibility 

To be eligible to apply, you must fulfil one of the following criteria as of November 2026:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme.
  • Currently enrolled in a postgraduate programme, and have NOT completed the first year of your degree.
  • Currently enrolled in a 5‑year integrated master’s programme, and have NOT completed the fourth year of your degree.
  • Completed an undergraduate degree within the last 3 years, and have NOT enrolled in any postgraduate programme.

How to apply?

  • All applicants must apply through the application form. 
  • Applicants are required to upload an abstract describing their research. The abstracts should range from 100 to 250 words, with 250 words as the strict upper limit. 
  • Applicants should classify their research within one of the three broad categories: microeconomics, macroeconomics and political economy. They can choose to present their work as a 15-minute talk or as a poster. 
  • Applicants can also apply as a group of maximum 4 people.

Selection will be made by a panel of faculty members of the economics group at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. We aim to be an inclusive platform, and will have an equitable selection process. 

Logistics & Support

Accommodation will be provided to all selected participants for the nights from 23rd to 25th January 2027. 

All three meals will also be provided on 24th and 25th January. 

We are in the process of securing funding to aid travel. Although we can not guarantee it at this point, we aim to reimburse three-tier AC train travel for needful participants from outside Bangalore.

  1. Do I need an economics degree to be eligible?
    No. We are interested in research in economics and related fields, irrespective of your academic background. 
  2. How do I write an abstract?
    This guide provided by the Undergraduate Research Centre at UC Davis is an excellent resource. We do not enforce any strict format, you can choose what is the best way to concisely communicate the most important and interesting information about your research. However, 250 words should be treated as a strict upper limit on the word count.
  3. Is there any fee?

    None.

  4. Is food and accommodation covered?
    Yes. Accommodation will be provided to all selected participants for the nights of 23rd, 24th and 25th of January. All three meals will also be provided on 24th and 25th of January. 
  5. Will travel be reimbursed?

    We cannot guarantee that yet. However, we are in the process of securing funding to aid travel. We aim to reimburse three-tier AC train travel for needful participants from outside Bangalore. 

  6. Can we apply as a group?

    Yes, you can apply as a group of 4 people at maximum. However, if you choose to present a talk, you will still have 15 minutes to present. It is not necessary for all members of the group to present on stage.
