From following pugmarks through the forests of Corbett to discovering the hidden lives of India’s big cats, this conversation explores how adventure stories can awaken curiosity about wildlife, inspire empathy for the natural world, and turn young readers into lifelong explorers of nature.

About the speaker
Anjana Basu was born in Allahabad and began her schooling in London. At the age of six, she was one of the winners of an all-UK essay competition organised by Cadbury’s. Basu began writing for children in 2010 with Chinku and the Wolfboy. This was followed by Rhythms of Darkness and the launch of her acclaimed Jim Corbett series on big cat conservation with TERI.
The series began with In the Shadow of the Leaves in 2013 and continued with The Leopard in the Laboratory, Eighteen Tides and a Tiger, Hide and Seek Tiger, and Lockdown Tiger. Talking Cub published Grandfather’s Tiger Tales in 2022. Her most recent book is Did Someone Say Woof, published by Niyogi Books in 2024.
