The world knows Sir C V Raman as a Nobel laureate (Physics 1930), the legend whose contribution to science is indelible. The play highlights his work as well as the human behind it.

Nikolai Vavilov was a Russian agricultural scientist who established one of the world’s largest seed collections, theorised that genetic diversity was highest in the original centres of origin, and championed breeding crops for disease resistance. Vavilov collected seeds from almost every country and started the world’s first seedbank in Russia. However, he was imprisoned by Russian authorities because the regime did not believe in genetics. He died in prison.

ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಸರ್ ಸಿ ವಿ ರಾಮನ್ (ಭೌತವಿಜ್ಞಾನ 1930) ಅವರು ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ವಿಜೇತರೆಂದೇ ಪರಿಚಿತರು. ಈ ನಾಟಕವು ರಾಮನ್ ಅವರ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ.

ನಿಕೊಲಾಯ್ ವಾವಿಲೋವ್ ರಷ್ಯಾ ದೇಶದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕೃಷಿ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿ. ಅವರು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬೀಜ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ, ತಳಿ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯವು ಮೂಲ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕೆ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಇರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಸೈದ್ಧಾಂತಿಕವಾಗಿ ವಿವರಿಸಿ, ಹೆಚ್ಚು ರೋಗ ನಿರೋಧಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳ ತಳಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಸರಿಸುಮಾರು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇಶಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಬೀಜಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ ರಷ್ಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಮೊದಲ ಬೀಜ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಆದರೆ, ಆ ಕಾಲದ ರಷ್ಯನ್ ಆಡಳಿತವು ತಳಿವಿಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ನಂಬುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು. ವಾವಿಲೋವ್ ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದರು.
