Media for Change: From Awareness to Action

As part of their ongoing work, practitioners working in the social sector engage with different kinds of information and evidence related to the contexts of the interventions, communities, ground realities, intervention strategies, challenges and their impact. In the age of instagram reels, twitter movements and viral content, how does the attention economy require to be heard at different levels? 

In this webinar, we explore the linkages between grassroots activism and the creative ways in which media can be leveraged for advocacy, awareness and action.

About the speakers and moderator

Alok Shukla has been leading various movements in Chhattisgarh against corporate extractivism and for protection of human rights for over two decades. He’s most prominently known for the Save Hasdeo movement to protect biodiversity rich pristine forests from the threat of 24 coal mines. He’s the winner of the 2024 Goldman Environmental Prize (Green Nobel) and a member of convenor collective of Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan

Bindu Menon is a prominent media studies scholar who is now teaching at Azim Premji University. She has extensively published in national and international journals on Bollywood, cinema and women, media representation of migrant workers etc.

Adil Hossain is a political anthropologist who teaches at the School of Development at Azim Premji University. At the University he teaches an elective on media, communication and development and regularly publishes in media outlets like The Quint, Scroll, Indian Express etc.
