‘Winter Field Project’ is an important component of the Field Practice courses of the MA in Development programme at the University. It entails a rigorous engagement of the students for over 30 weeks — 12 weeks of preparation of the field project proposal (in the third semester), 8 weeks of fieldwork (semester break), followed by about 10 weeks of analysis (in the fourth semester). It is a student-driven process, where students ideate and work on a field project of their interest, and include proposal development, ethics approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), fieldwork of 8 weeks, and subsequent analysis under the guidance of a faculty mentor. The University provides additional inputs in the form of workshops for students for analysis and presentation. 

The field projects in the form of research, action project or intervention, cover pertinent social issues, including rural livelihoods, disability rights, agriculture and land rights, citizenship and identity, gender and sexuality, and so on. 

Students of the 2023 – 25 batch, having gone through this rigorous process,  will be presenting their learnings and insights through posters or other creative audio-visual presentations during the project fair. This event is an amalgamation of students’ engagement with numerous social issues of communities in real-time, demonstrating the depth of their understanding and engagement with the development realities. 

Apart from its academic flavour, the two-day event exhibits a snapshot of socio-economic, political-cultural and ecological issues of development from over 20 states of India, captured by our students from their viewpoints. It will provide a panoramic picture of the development reality of India as it existed between November-December 2024.

This will also be a great opportunity to interact with the student community, university members, and other guests at the project fair.
