Shubho Sharadotsava | Durga Pujo Celebration

Celebrate the culture of Bengal with dhunuchi naach, dhaak’er taal, and mishti.

Folk Festival Live Music 3 1

পুজো পুজো গন্ধ আকাশে। The smell of Pujo is in the air.

We kickstart the festivities officially today with Mahalaya.

Come celebrate Shubho Sharodotsava at Hinge Area. Hope to see you all there, celebrating and dancing together to the rhythm of Dhaak, without which Pujo is incomplete.

Glossary

Dhunuchi Naach: A dance done at pandals whilst holding charcoal pots which have lit coconut husks in them in their hands to ceremonial drum beats.

Dhaak’er Taal: Pujo is incomplete without the sound of the drum, that is, the dhaak — maddening beats of the drum send people around it in a frenzied rhythm of dancing and fun.

Mishti: Bengali sweets that are famous all over the world.

Mahalaya: The first day of Durga Pujo. It was on 25 September 2022, but we will be celebrating it on campus today, i.e. Monday, 26 September 2022.
