Modern Times focuses on literary and cultural movements that took place roughly in the first five decades of the 20th century and are widely recognized to have constituted “modernism”. The course focuses on texts from Europe and North America, making occasional references to literary and other texts from other parts of the world. However, keeping in mind the fact that this period is one during which several cultural and political events with global effects occurred, the course does not stop at introducing key Euro-American authors/texts but invites you to make connections between modernisms as they manifested themselves in different regions, languages and forms.
