How did connections across continents occur in the medieval time period? Through land and the oceans. This course looks at the oceanic perspective and how it brought ashore culture, trade and commerce. We look at the transactions of ideas, materials, culture from the Indian subcontinent and via trade routes on the Indian Ocean and the Silk Road. What were the similarities and difference, and what relationships did this space create? This course will examine these questions analytically especially to unpack nationalistic modes of histories.
