Biography
Kumar Ashutosh is a development economist whose work examines policy-relevant social and economic issues in India, with a particular focus on women’s development. His research uses causal and evidence-based methods to study girls’ schooling, street safety, agricultural transformation, nutrition, early childhood care, and higher education. He has explored questions such as the role of street safety in girls’ secondary education and the relationship between the Green Revolution and excess body weight among women.
He has also worked with Azim Premji Foundation to assess the impact of creche interventions in rural India on children’s anthropometric outcomes, especially weight and height. In addition, he is currently studying skill formation and job readiness among college graduates using quantitative and qualitative methods. Previously, he has taught courses in probability and statistics, managerial economics, econometrics, and operations management.
