Reframing the Adivasi

An alternative history of the struggle of the Adivasi for dignity, justice, and human rights, curated by Sangeeta Dasgupta and Vikas Kumar

This exhibition brings into focus Adivasi communities of eastern and central India, how these communities have been stereotyped, and how Adivasi voices have critiqued such representations.

On display are the shifting images of tribes’ in nineteenth-century colonial representations through lithographs; photographs of aboriginal tribes’; ethnographic and anthropological texts of the colonial period; illustrations and images of objects and photographs; a philatelic archive of postage stamps, special covers and postal stationery; and excerpts from unpublished articles, diaries, poems and songs, and photographs. These unpack an alternative history of the struggle of the Adivasi for dignity, justice, and human rights.
