Azim Premji University in association with NRMC Centre for Land Government (an Intellecap Subsidiary), Bhubaneswar, is organising a workshop on Land Governance and Development’.

Land is central to various development and policy questions in India. The importance of land is acknowledged across development and policy domains with concerns of land rights figuring prominently in some of the targets and indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Governments and Civil society actors are continuously engaging with the issues of land. Everyday, new policy challenges emerge that are redefining the relationship between land and development. Therefore, there is a continuous need for capacity building programmes to equip various stakeholders with tools for addressing development and policy challenges associated with land. The aim of the workshop is to address this need.

The workshop will be a follow up to the Summer School on Land Governance, held in June 2022 at the University. It is designed in an interactive mode, and it aims to focus on advanced topics on land governance and development.

The participants are professionals from NGOs/INGOs, donors, private sector managers involved in CSR, R&R and investment decisions, young academicians, doctoral students, journalists, lawyers, and government officials involved in land administration, use and acquisition.

The workshop will take participants through inter-disciplinary and practical topics that explore linkages of land tenure and governance in the context of challenges of climate change, SDGs, Net-Zero and depletion of common property resources.

Besides lectures, case studies and group work, the workshop will also include a few practice sessions on developing Land Policy Briefs.

The resource-persons are drawn from among experienced professionals, administrators, and academics. The objective is also to provide a platform for the participants to learn from the vast and varied experience and insights of the resource-persons, besides facilitating networking and cross-fertilisation of ideas.
