Introduction to Economics I

Understand economic behaviour and interactions through key economics concepts and tools.

This is the first of two courses which introduces students to the main themes, thinkers and concepts used in economics. This course will introduce students to foundational concepts in microeconomics and political economy through historical and contemporary examples and data. Students will use the Azim Premji University-Institute of New Economic Thinking (APU-INET) Curriculum Open-access Resources in Economics (CORE) textbook . The CORE textbook has a different approach from standard introduction to microeconomics textbooks. It is empirically motivated and trains students to use economic concepts to understand real-world problems’. It integrates results from contemporary research in the field of economics into the course-work such as behavioural experiments and incomplete contracts.
