Music is universal. Most people enjoy listening to, creating, singing or playing music. The guitar is an iconic instrument, having seen a role in various genres of music through the ages. Playing the guitar is therefore a natural first step towards creative expression in music.

The acoustic guitar, played as a bridge between harmony and rhythm, suits the purposes of this course perfectly. It is physically demanding – the student needs to put in a concerted effort towards learning techniques and developing finger dexterity and strength – but is not overwhelmingly difficult. In terms of theory, very basic music theory is enough to get started with the instrument. A basic knowledge of melody, harmony and rhythm will be developed and these can be applied to all genres of music.
