Digital technology and health refer to a broad spectrum of initiatives that combine technology and public health. It is crucial to note that the utilization of technology in health systems is not a recent development; what has evolved is the use of digital technology and digitalisation to improve public health outcomes.

Historically, policymakers have viewed digital technology as a tool that can enhance governance and address issue of reach and equity in service delivery. In addition, they perceived digital technology as a tool capable of addressing systemic shortcomings in general as well as within the health system.

Thus, this course offers an opportunity to critically explore this prevalent view that digital technologies have the ability to enhance public health outcomes by empowering patients, enhancing access, addressing equity issues, and better managing health programs.
