Chalk Out | Student-led multilingual, multimodal ed-zine
Led by the students of BSc BEd programme, Chalk Out is our way of saying ‘we care’.

Chalk Out is a multilingual multimodal e‑zine that was born in September 2020 out of classroom conversations in an education course. During the pandemic, when Jamlo, a 12-year-old girl, embarked upon a 150 km journey, only to breathe her last, 50 km away from home, the students felt an immediate need to do something to express solidarity with the world of children and start asking questions about the state of education. Led by the students of BSc BEd programme, Chalk Out is our way of saying ‘we care’.
Each issue of Chalk Out is based on a theme in education. The themes are mostly centered around the world of children and teachers. Published twice a year, Chalk Out attempts to create a space where contributors can share their ideas, experiences, journeys, opinions, reflections, reviews, and conversations around the given theme.
It has certain recurrent elements such as From those on the Frontlines, Teacher Feature, Dear Diary, and Questions to Mark.
What’s Latest?
We are excited to announce the release of Chalk Out’s 6th issue, which explores the theme of Study Buddies. It is a collection of poems, articles, and audio interviews that invite you to pause and reflect on the invaluable study buddies we encounter throughout our lifelong learning journeys.
In Chalk Out-Issue 6‑Study Buddies, our contributors have delved into the profound impact their study buddies have had on their learning expeditions, adding delightful melodies to their educational endeavours.
For some, a study buddy has been a person, a special place, a trusty slate pencil, a cherished book, or even a helpful app. And for others, these companions have become inseparable parts of their journey.
We hope the pages of this issue will help rekindle fond memories of your childhood study buddies and inspire you to cherish the ones you have in your life today.
The call for contributions for Issue 7 will be open soon.
