Research Communication for Advocacy July 2024 Batch

Are you a social sector professional/practitioner looking to spotlight an issue?

Visual and written communication are integral parts of social action, from writing donor reports, posting on social media to presenting organisational work to external stakeholders. This certificate is tailored for social sector practitioners who endeavour to explain the key outcomes of their work, raise awareness about issues or build alliances and networks for larger social change.

The certificate consists of three courses:

i) Research Communication for Social Action

ii) Skills for Written Communication

iii ) Research Communication through Data Visualisation

The first course covers principles of effective communication, planning for research communication, creating and delivering effective content and stories, and use of social media in communicating outcomes.

The second course on written communication deals with principles of good writing while focusing on donor reports and press releases.

The data visualisation course teaches participants how to use charts and graphs effectively, create and design effective maps, communicate qualitative data, enhance visual elements in reports, slide desks and social media.

The course pedagogy is designed specifically for practitioners, combining theory with hands-on practice where participants will engage in creating their own material with feedback from instructors. Participants will also be exposed to multiple examples from the field and encouraged to bring in their own experiences and challenges. The programme will be delivered in a hybrid mode with two weeks of in-person classes followed by weekly online classes for four weeks.
