Biography
A historian by training, Yengkhom Jilangamba has spent over a decade developing and teaching interdisciplinary courses. While his research is geographically centred on Northeast India, his historical inquiry transcends the post-colonial boundaries of India, Bangladesh, and Burma. This broader scope enables him to interrogate complex categories such as nation, sovereignty, borders, and the legacies of colonial anthropological knowledge, as well as collective identity, self-determination, and indigeneity.
A central theme in his work is how these categories are mediated by violence; indeed, his recent research focuses heavily on the meanings and lived experiences of violence. Beyond his research, he has led various curriculum development initiatives and research methodology workshops.
Before joining Azim Premji University, he taught at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Kirori Mal College (University of Delhi) and served as a Visiting Associate Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi.
