Biography
Pravasa works in the domains of fiscal justice, public expenditure tracking, decentralised planning, inequality, and governance accountability. Over the years, he has the expertise to demystify complex public budgets and translate them into accessible documents. He builds citizen-friendly narratives on the union and state budgets. His expertise is also in unpacking the deeper political economy that shapes Union and State budgets, going beyond conventional economic analysis to highlight their implications on social justice and redistribution.
He began his professional journey at an ICSSR-affiliated research institute, where he was introduced to rigorous academic research and policy analysis. Building on this foundation, he transitioned into working with a range of national and international organisations, engaging in both social research and community development initiatives. His work has particularly focused on strengthening local governance systems and participatory planning processes, especially within the context of tribal economies, where issues of marginalisation, resource access, and institutional capacity are deeply intertwined.
Throughout his career, Pravasa has demonstrated a unique ability to bridge the gap between research and community practice. He has led more than 25 research projects, many of which have informed policy debates and grassroots interventions. In addition to his research contributions, he has been actively involved in the implementation of development projects at the ground level, gaining firsthand experience of governance challenges and community dynamics across diverse contexts.
Pravasa has authored over 100 Op-Eds and research articles in both Odia and English, contributing to wider public discourse on governance, budgets, and development. He has also co-authored the India Inequality Reports, which sparked widespread debate across India for their sharp analysis of rising disparities and their implications for policy and governance. His writings are known for making complex policy issues understandable to a broad audience, thereby accelerating informed civic engagement.
He has been nominated as an Honorary member of the State Audit Advisory Board (SAAB) under the Office of the Accountant General (Odisha), Government of India, where he contributes to strengthening public financial accountability and oversight mechanisms. Through his multifaceted work-research, writing, policy engagement, and field practice, Pravasa continues to advance the cause of transparent, equitable, and accountable governance.
