Biography

Jyoti is a political scientist with MA, MPhil, and PhD degrees from the University of Delhi, New Delhi. Her research focuses on the complex intersections of caste, gender, and sexual violence, examining how systemic inequalities shape individual experiences and collective identities. She offers critical analyses of the social structures and mechanisms that sustain exclusion and injustice in Indian society. In recognition of her doctoral research, she received a national research grant from the ICSSR in 2019. Additionally, she was awarded a research travel grant by the European Association of South Asian Studies (EASAS) in 2018 for presenting a paper. Her scholarly contributions appear in blind peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, including Contemporary Voice of Dalits (Sage), J‑Caste (Brandeis University), Research in the Social Scientific Study of Religion (Brill), and publications from Taylor & Francis, among others.

Prior to joining Azim Premji University as Assistant Professor in 2025, she held teaching positions at Daulat Ram College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, and Rajdhani College, all affiliated with the University of Delhi. She has also worked as a research associate and field investigator on projects funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and the Indian Social Institute.

Beyond her academic pursuits, she likes to travel, reading, immersing herself in music, watching films, and cooking
